Thinking about getting new impact windows for your home? Well, if you’re reading this blog, you’re probably at least somewhat interested in new windows for your home. Well, just for you (and everyone else reading this article), Karoly Windows & Doors is offering free upgrades on Simonton Windows to automatically include their Super Spacer system!
What is Simonton’s Super Spacer? What are the benefits of this system? Let’s answer these questions and more about Simonton Windows and this special offer from Karoly Windows & Doors:
What Is the Super Spacer System?
Simonton Window’s Super Spacer is an optional upgrade for their double- and triple-paned impact windows that is used to improve the insulative qualities of the window. It lines the inside of the window, going over the Simonton-standard stainless steel spacer that separates the glass panes in the insulated glass unit of the window.
One of the issues with having stainless steel exposed directly to the sun is that it can heat up significantly very quickly. This can not only lead to poorer energy efficiency, it can cause increased thermal expansion of the air and materials within the window itself.
What Are the Benefits of Using the Foam Super Spacer vs Stainless Steel Spacer?
1: A Small U-Factor Improvement
The nonmetallic foam of the Super Spacer system is non-conductive, which virtually eliminates thermal transfer. It also fills the available space to create a tighter seal that prevents air leakage. This results in a small U-factor improvement for the window compared to using a standard stainless steel spacer.
The amount of improvement can vary a bit depending on whether the window has low-e glass or not. Solar Control low e glass already reflects away most of the sun’s heat, which is what usually causes the most heat gain for a stainless steel spacer.
2. Improved Soundproofing
Did you know that the foam-based Super Spacer system can improve a window’s soundproofing? Well, it can! When compared to a window with the stainless steel spacer system, windows with the foam Super Spacer enjoy a slightly improved sound dampening factor.
Why?
Here’s an experiment for you: take a piece of metal, and a piece of soft foam. Flick each with your finger. Which one made the loudest noise? Odds are that the metal made a much more noticeable sound than the foam did.
This is because the semi-soft foam material absorbs and deadens vibrations while the solid steel more readily transmits them.
It’s a small difference, but it’s a difference.
3. Reduced Condensation on the Glass
The third benefit of using Simonton’s Super Spacer is that the foam material can help prevent condensation on the window glass. This is because the foam not only inhibits thermal transfer, so the glass facing the interior or the exterior of the structure won’t have as large of a temperature difference between it and the environment, but the foam seals the inside of the window more effectively to keep moisture from getting into the insulated glass unit.
How Do I Get Simonton Super Spacer for My Windows?
Normally, Simonton’s Super Spacer is an optional upgrade that you would have to pay extra for at the time of your window order. However, Karoly is now providing this upgrade at no additional cost to customers who want more energy-efficient and soundproof Simonton Windows.
Simply place an order for Simonton Windows with Karoly and the upgrade to Super Spacer is automatic.
Are There Any Exceptions to the Free Super Spacer Upgrade?
The only caveat to the Super Spacer upgrade is that it is only available for Simonton brand windows. This offer is not available for PGT Window products. Super Spacer is, after all, a Simonton Windows product.
If you would prefer to not use the Super Spacer in your Simonton Windows for any reason, please let us know during your complimentary window consultation and we will work to accommodate your preferences.
