Protect Your Home with Impact Windows and Doors!

Impact windows and doors are purpose-built to withstand extreme wind pressure and heavy strikes from flying debris, making them an invaluable means of protecting your home from hurricane conditions and would-be intruders.

Any form of protection is only as strong as its weakest link. That’s why it’s important to replace all of your windows with impact-resistant ones. If even a single window is unprotected, it could be the weak link that lets hurricane-force winds, rain, and debris into your home.

About the My Safe Florida Home Program

My Safe Florida Home is a program created by the State of Florida to help homeowners make critical hurricane resistance upgrades to their homes. The program first started in 2006 and is accepting applications for the 2026–27 fiscal year. Funding is limited.

Fast Facts for 2026–27

Karoly Windows & Doors is a licensed Florida contractor (#SCC131152010). Working with homeowners throughout Tampa Bay, we’ve helped many homeowners protect their homes from hurricanes by installing new impact-resistant windows and doors, and many of our customers have used the My Safe Florida Home program to help pay for them. Here are a few key facts about the program for 2026–27:

Matching Grants of Up to $10,000

The My Safe Florida Home program is accepting applications for the 2026–27 fiscal year. Eligible homeowners may receive a matching grant of up to $10,000: the State generally contributes $2 for every $1 the homeowner contributes, and low-income homeowners may receive up to $10,000 without a match. Funding is limited.

Applicants Are Prioritized by Income & Age

The State prioritizes applicants by income and age, and funding is limited. Create an account on the program’s portal at mysafeflhome.com to get started.

Grants Are Given AFTER You Pay for Upgrades

The MSFH Program does not provide money for proposed improvements. Grant payouts are made after the upgrades have already been paid for. Unlike a loan, you don’t have to repay, so improvements are made first.

Home Eligibility Basics

To get a free wind mitigation inspection, your home must be owner-occupied, site-built and homesteaded, and a single-family home, detached or attached (such as a townhome), not over three stories. Rental properties and mobile homes don’t qualify.

Funding Is Limited

Funding for the program is limited, and the State prioritizes applicants by income and age, so it pays to get started early.

MSFH Has a Two-Step Application Process

To receive a grant for funds under the MSFH program, you first need to sign up for a wind mitigation inspection, then file for the grant after it’s done.

Protect Your Home. Get a Quote!

As an approved contractor under the MSFH program, Karoly Windows & Doors provides quotes for service that can help homeowners in their MSFH grant application process. Why Complete Hurricane Protection Is Necessary

When homeowners think about hurricane winds hitting their homes, they tend to assume that the wind and debris will all come from one direction, so if they protect the windows along the walls where the wind is coming from, they’ll be fine. There are a host of problems with this reasoning.

First, and foremost, you cannot always anticipate what direction the wind and the debris it carries will fly from. Even with accurate forecasting, debris carried by the wind can hit your windows at an angle, causing chips that weaken windows. So, every window should be protected well before a storm is identified by meteorologists.

Second, the side of the home opposite the oncoming wind will experience a suction force. If the windows along that wall aren’t reinforced against negative pressure differentials, then they could end up blowing outwards.

Finally, there are the insurance considerations. If you have a dozen windows that are protected and one that isn’t, and the unprotected window breaks, causing catastrophic damage to the interior of your home, then the insurance company will likely deny the claim because your home had incomplete protection.

By protecting all of your home’s openings with impact windows and doors, you can ensure that you have security against hurricanes enough to have peace of mind throughout the worst storms Florida faces.

I reached out to Karoly for new sliding windows in my florida room and two exterior doors. Karoly came out and spent quite a while getting all the measurements right. That makes you feel good. When the installers came out, two days and done. Windows look great and the doors are solid and close tight. Everything is now impact and hurricane rated. I got my insurance discount. Thanks Karoly!

We had a leak under a sliding door, which was installed by the previous owner of our condo. I called Karoly and they came in less than 3 days and the very friendly, professional representatives fixed the issue at no charge.

I am very hard to please as I pretty much expect close to perfection. From a serious point I just want a TEAM that cares and gives it their best. Mistakes happen. However today I had Hurricane windows placed by Karoly. Actually from the very beginning it was like dealing with a family. In all my dealing with different companies A/C etc they far outshined any company I have ever dealt with. My techs were Vili, Zoli and Christian. They gave 150%, were very clean, cared about our house and did exquisite workmanship. 1,000% incredible and guess what they are not my relatives. LOL

I will never be able to brag enough about how superior this company is. My husband and I interviewed at least seven window companies, all full of similar products of PGT or other hurricane safe Windows. We became window experts on our own with the knowledge we absorbed comparing apples to apples. Karoly was the final company we met with and Austin presentation was simple and he showed us a sample and did all the measurements. He explained the Simonton brand very well and the warranty they offer cannot be beat. We visited their showroom and met with Jesse to really look at products. Our decision was quick and easy and the price was better than their competitors. We completed all the paperwork with Richy and Angela and the rest of the wonderful staff. Installation day came and we met the fantastic installers that were so kind and clean. In 3 days our job was done. The day after that inspector came and passed us and one week later Karoly came back to complete final installation of some parts and now it’s all finished. These windows have changed our home completely. Not only did we work with the best contractor and save money we also gained a more beautiful home and it’s so quiet! No barking dogs or loud traffic or thunder anymore just peaceful tranquility!!! Thank you everyone at Karoly for making us so happy!!! I promise to call you again for all my other houses!! This was the best thing we’ve ever done without a doubt . Sincerely, Cheryl & Doug Sigmon

After researching a few companies, I decided to go with Karoly. They replaced 19 windows and 3 sliders with Sinomton Stormbreaker Plus 300VL and Simonton Maxview. I enjoyed reading the information they had on their website and pleased to see this is a family owned business with emphasis on quality work and customer satisfaction. Employees were pleasant and professional and answered my questions. It has only been almost 2 years since installation and from my experience thus far, I would highly recommend Karoly.

I couldn't be happier with my experience with Karoly Windows & Doors! They replaced all of my windows along with two doors, and the entire experience exceeded my expectations. From start to finish, everyone was professional, friendly, and truly cared about doing the job right. The installation crews were outstanding. They were hardworking, respectful of my home, paid attention to every detail, and the quality of their workmanship was exceptional. I'm extremely pleased with the quality of the window replacement, the beautiful new doors, and the finished results. I was so impressed with the company that I've already recommended Karoly Windows & Doors to several of my neighbors. It's refreshing to work with a company that delivers exactly what they promise. If you're considering window replacement, I highly recommend Karoly Windows & Doors. They are a true first-class company, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the entire experience.

My Safe Florida Home Tampa FAQs Section

How Many Times Can You Apply for the My Safe Florida Home Program?

Once. Each eligible home can be entered into the program a single time.

However, multiple upgrades can be considered at the same time. So, when applying for the program, make sure you perform as many wind mitigation upgrades as possible up front. The more upgrades you make to protect your home from hurricanes, the bigger the rebate you can qualify for (up to the maximum value).

If you find that replacing all of your windows doesn’t bring you to the maximum rebate value under the MSFH program, you could also consider other hurricane mitigation improvements to your home, like reinforcing the connection between your home’s roof and the building frame, impact doors, and home waterproofing improvements.

The program offers matching grants of up to $10,000, subject to the program’s approval. For most eligible homeowners, the State contributes $2 for every $1 the homeowner contributes, so a $10,000 grant corresponds to $15,000 of eligible work. Low-income homeowners may receive up to $10,000 without a match.

To learn more about how much your home could qualify for, visit mysafeflhome.com and sign up for a free wind mitigation inspection.

The wind mitigation inspection for the My Safe Florida home program is free for qualifying Tampa homeowners. You don’t have to pay a penny to get the inspection done. If you find someone trying to charge you for a wind mitigation inspection, they aren’t part of the MSFH program and should be reported to the authorities.

You can apply for a free inspection through the MSFH program website after creating a portal account.

Generally, yes. For most eligible homeowners, the State contributes $2 for every $1 you contribute, up to a $10,000 grant. For example, $15,000 of eligible work could mean a $10,000 grant and $5,000 from you. Low-income homeowners may receive up to $10,000 without a match. The program determines the final amount.

Yes! The My Safe Florida Home program isn’t the only program that can provide funds for upgrading your home’s doors and windows. For example, there’s the Florida PACE program, which may also provide some funding to help cover the cost of hurricane mitigation and energy efficiency upgrades to your home’s doors and windows in some areas of Hillsborough County.

However, PACE is a loan requiring repayment, unlike the MSFH program.

In addition to PACE, you can also apply for window financing from private lenders like Synchrony and GreenSky, though this is subject to credit approval.

To qualify for the free wind mitigation inspection, a home must be:

  • owner-occupied (no rental properties);
  • site-built (no mobile homes);
  • granted a homestead exemption under s. 196.031, Fla. Stat.; and
  • a single-family home, detached or attached (such as a townhome), not over three stories.

Apartments, condo units in multi-story buildings, cooperatives and vacation homes generally don’t qualify. Since the inspection is required before a grant, the same rules apply to grants. Condo owners: Karoly still replaces windows and doors in condos; ask us for a quote.

The My Safe Florida Home program is accepting applications for the 2026–27 fiscal year. The program prioritizes applicants by income and age, and only the State can determine eligibility.

To qualify for a grant, generally:

  • your home’s insured value is $700,000 or less;
  • your home was built before January 1, 2008;
  • you completed an MSFH wind-mitigation inspection within the past 24 months; and
  • you meet the program’s low- or moderate-income guidelines.

Check your status at mysafeflhome.com or call 850-427-2559.

Karoly Windows & Doors is an independent contractor and is not affiliated with the Florida Department of Financial Services or the My Safe Florida Home program. Program rules, funding and eligibility are set by the State and can change. Sources: s. 215.5586, Fla. Stat. (2026); MSFH: Is funding currently available?

Generally speaking, it takes about 5-10 business days (i.e., a couple of weeks) for a reimbursement check to arrive in the mail once a rebate is approved following your home’s final inspection.

The program divides eligible wind mitigation improvements into four distinct categories:

  • Opening Protection. This includes impact-resistant windows and doors.
  • Roof-to-Wall Attachment. This covers strengthening the connections between your roof and walls to prevent roof removal in storms.
  • Roof Deck Attachment. This covers upgrades to secure your roof deck to your home, such as by adding extra nails.
  • Secondary Water Resistance. This category includes a variety of water resistance improvements like applying self-adhering underlayment to sheathing or foam adhesive barriers.

However, to qualify for the MSFH Program, an improvement must be recommended by an inspector with the program. Also, you can perform multiple upgrades with different contractors at once and report them all at the same time to maximize your rebate.

Maybe not. Certain low-income homeowners can apply for a grant without having to submit proof that they paid the contractor’s itemized invoice.

However, you should converse with the Florida Department of Financial Services to see if you qualify as a “low income’ applicant before signing off on any major wind mitigation upgrades.

You can email them with inquiries at info@mysafeflhome.com.

No. It is not recommended to begin reimbursable work until AFTER you have an official grant approval notice.

While there is always value in making recommended wind mitigation upgrades, to get the rebate, it’s important to follow the MSFH process as closely as possible.

No. My Safe Florida Home does not allow applicants to use their own inspector. The program will assign a licensed inspector contracted with the program.

The program does, however, leverage program-approved contractor quotes when determining if your proposed wind mitigation upgrades are eligible for an MSFH grant.
