Double Hung Windows

A double-hung window can open at both the bottom or at the top. They are designed with two movable panels, known as sashes. These sashes meet in the middle and can be secured shut with a latch.

One of the advantages of double-hung windows is their ease of cleaning, facilitated by the ability of both sashes to tilt inward, providing convenient access to both the interior and exterior glass surfaces. Additionally, because these windows don’t protrude either inward or outward when opened, they maximize both indoor and outdoor space, making them particularly popular for areas such as patios and porches.

Commonly found in traditional and farmhouse-style homes, double-hung windows can be further enhanced with the addition of a simple grille pattern, which enhances their traditional look while adding a touch of modest detail and charm.

Simonton Double Hung Windows

These high-quality replacement windows are made of top-grade vinyl and offer excellent resistance to heat transfer and air leakage. This is achieved through features like low-conductivity frames, Low-E glass, Argon gas fills, and thermally efficient spacers that create tight seals. With these elements working together, your home can maintain a comfortable temperature much more effectively, potentially reducing the need for frequent use of your HVAC system. As a result, the cost savings on energy bills could eventually offset the investment in these new windows.

PGT Double Hung Windows

PGT replacement windows are specifically designed to minimize noise penetration, decrease energy usage and expenses, and block out 99% of harmful UV rays. These windows are equipped with multi-point locking mechanisms and constructed from durable vinyl, enhancing their ability to withstand severe weather conditions.

Impact Rated Double Hung Windows

Both Simonton and PGT offer impact double hung windows, sometimes called hurricane windows. Built with sturdy frames and glass that can withstand strong impacts and the highest winds. If an object hits the window at high speed, it will remain fully intact, though the outer layer of glass may shatter. This means that the window structure and overall barrier remain solid, keeping the interior of your home completely safe from the external elements.
