WBD or HVHZ – What’s the difference?
WBD = Wind-Borne Debris
HVHZ = High Velocity Hurricane Zone
The majority of Florida, especially Tampa Bay and coastal areas, are required to replace their glass with impact rated glass. When it comes to doors, there two two kinds of impact doors: WBD and HVHZ. For impact doors in the Tampa Bay area, WBD is sufficient for Florida Building Codes. HVHZ is only required in Broward and Dade Counties of Southern Florida.

Entry Door Replacement Options
Please be aware, not all of these configurations options will be available for your opening size. Sometimes the swing of the door is contingent on the entry opening as well. During your in-home consultation with our owner/contractor, Karoly, he will measure the size of your opening and discuss what configurations and swing options are available for you. We require inswing doors to have a minimum overhang of 5 feet to prevent water intrusion from the weather. Although this is not currently defined by the Florida building code as a rule, it is a practice that we have adopted in order to ensure the best performance for your doors. Fiberglass Woodgrain 6’8″ Standard Door Options
Woodgrain doors have a stainable rich oak grain pattern that resembles the look, feel and texture of real wood without any of the problems associated with wood. All door systems are sold unfinished. The natural color of woodgrain doors are tan or beige. They can be painted or stained after installation. Doors marked with an asterisk (*) are WBD only and do not come in HVHZ.
Fiberglass Smooth Finish 6’8″ Standard Door Options
These doors are scratch-resistant! Patented, pre-pigmented white skin infuses the door white
through and through. Can be painted or faux
finished to coordinate with your home decor. All door systems are sold unfinished. The natural color of smooth doors are white. We recommend them being painted or finished after installation. Doors marked with an asterisk (*) are WBD only and do not come in HVHZ.
