One of the biggest reasons that we work with American window manufacturers rather than ones located overseas is that it makes it easier for us to minimize risk for our customers.
When you’re dealing with an overseas manufacturer, they aren’t necessarily operating under the same regulatory standards as an American company. Their products and production lines might not meet the same stringent safety standards.
Foreign-made impact windows are often advertised as being “as good as” or “comparable to” brands like Simonton and PGT, but lack the actual NFRC and AAMA certifications to prove it. They’ll make grandiose claims about how good their impact resistance is without objective third-party certification to prove it.

When hurricanes hit, you need to know that you can rely on your windows to stand up to those winds without failing critically because of a flaw in the glazing or frame. PGT, in particular, has its manufacturing plant based in Venice, Florida. Making a custom impact window is already a time-consuming process. This is especially true during the busy hurricane season, as more homeowners start requesting custom windows at once, creating a manufacturing backlog for even the biggest window makers.
Adding a weeks or even months-long boat trip for windows assembled in some overseas location takes an already time-consuming process and stretches it out further with slow shipping methods. Faster, air-based shipping is sometimes available, but is commensurately more expensive, which counteracts the cost-savings buying foreign-made cheap windows is supposed to provide.
Plus, when a quality control issue does get past the manufacturer and we need to request a remanufacture for a window or door, being able to send back and receive the replacement fast helps minimize the delays caused by QC issues.
