Splitting from the Big Box Norms
In 2001, Karoly Szekeres broke away from working for major box stores to found his own impact window installation company: Karoly Windows & Doors.
Why did he stop working for national chains to coordinate impact window installations? Because he looked around and saw that there was massive room for improvement.
He wanted to do right by both impact window customers. Impact window replacement is a major investment. One that needs to be done the right way so they don’t have to worry about leaks or other issues.
The problem with the industry as a whole was that all too many big box stores were willing to charge customers a premium price for substandard service. They didn’t have dedicated window installation teams. Instead, they entered into subcontracting deals with the lowest bidder for each job.
Because the cheapest subcontractor was also frequently unreliable, there was a high rate of complaints on jobs: unfinished work, damage done to homes, injuries at the jobsite, and poor quality installs that would fail inspection or start exhibiting severe issues soon after the installation completed, just to name a few of the more common problems.
Karoly wanted to do things differently. He wanted to bring high-quality workmanship and consistency to an industry dominated by subcontracting companies competing to cut corners more closely than the rest.
He started with a single truck and his own hard-earned know-how, then grew that into a business which would eventually earn the distinction of being Simonton’s #1 impact window installer.
The Road to Becoming #1 Simonton Impact Window Installers
The path to becoming Simonton’s top impact window installation company wasn’t easy or fast. It took years of consistent, steady work for Karoly Windows & Doors to get there.
The first step was discovering Simonton Windows in the first place.
As part of Karoly’s dedication to doing the right thing by customers, he experimented with many different window and door brands early on in his business journey. EAS, ES, CWS, PGT, and many other window brands were tried during installs and set up as standalone test units so Karoly Szekeres could make direct comparisons between each brand to see how well they held up to Florida’s weather.
Simonton’s StormBreaker impact window products first earned their Notice of Acceptance in August of 2004, just a few years after Karoly started his business. So, Simonton wasn’t even available when Karoly Windows & Doors was founded.
